International trade and the world’s situation

As known to all, our world is becoming smaller and smaller as the rapid development in each member countries in the “earth village”. Through high technology and developed traffic we are connected with each other more and more tightly. And so, international trade has played a more and more important role in our daily life. We can use many cosmetics of famous brands over world because of the import trade with foreign merchants. We can watch the exciting matches in European champion league because of our official television organization’s service trade with European owners of relay rights. Furthermore, WTO, the worldwide economic organization to manage and coordinate international trade, has become one of the most influential organizations in the world. It has made a notable impact on human beings’ ideology and way of life. Many countries first develop their relationship through the multilateral trade and then establish their diplomatic relations, which promote their trade more rapid and convenient again. So the globalization spreading the whole world brings not only goods and service to each corner of this blue planet, but also changes in ideas and thoughts of everyone’s mind. It proves that, international trade and world’s situation, including the international politics and diversified culture, has a very tight inherent relation.


On the one hand, we can say it is worldwide productivity’s development and increase of people’s demand that help to bring about international trade’s appearance. And the trend of the world’s situation deeply affects the development of international trade. In the early development history of capitalism countries, we can find that the disputes in international trade between developed countries and less developed countries always resulted in the wars and political revolution in the latter. Normally, each nation formulates its foreign policies on the basis of the national interests and its development program. International trade’s situation and legal clauses about it, as an economic channel to reflect the political tendency, become an obvious symbol to estimate and judge the nation’s social and economic situation. For example, if one country is a developing country and just begins its industrialization process, to keep its domestic market and its own immature industries from foreign multinational corporations’ competition, it’ll adopt some protective measures on foreign trade, such as high import tariff and non-tariff barriers in trade. And more examples, if a powerful country, which may be considered to be U.S.A by most people, want to interfere with some countries’ internal affairs and exert its pressure and influence, it always implements some punishment policies to them. And these polices are always related to bilateral trade between two countries, such as sanctions and embargo. So we can say the trade relations between two countries is just like a mirror reflecting the political and historical relations. For example the Lome Convention between the EU and their pre-colonial countries, mainly distributed over Africa, Caribbean and Pacific Ocean areas, is primarily based on the fact that these developing countries were ever colonies of the EU member countries. I think it’s a case of point.

On the other hand, the rapid development of international trade is also changing the world’s situation and the power balance of international politics. In the wave of globalization in the whole world, to what extent one country’s foreign trade develops can represent its actual economic strength most. After World WarⅡ, as a vanquished country, all left to japanese people is just large scale of ruins and unforgetable pain in heart. But on the basic to bring in the top-level technology and know-how from the developed countries, Japan engage in the economic expenditure and import in a large quantity. Finally Japanese economy caught up with world’s top-level and now play a significant role in the world’s economy and other international affairs. Maybe no one can deny the notable effect of foreign trade in Japanese development. The APEC(Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) is paid more and more worldwide attetion, maybe just because of the Asian legend in economy and more important position in the sight of western developed countries. Mr.Deng Xiaoping once said:“Only development is truth.“, just he recognized one country can be respected only when it has its own strenth. Each country’s aim to do the business is so simple, that is the maximum of national interest. So international trade can promote the development of one country’s economy, and a country whose forces are getting more and more stronger in economy must have a effect on political affairs, further, the world’s situation.

Maybe we can see more examples around us just now. First of couse it’s the famous Irac War, which has a dramatic and inconceivable ending several weeks ago. Although it ended more earlier than time people have thought, it still make a serious impact on the international trade. The possible danger and casualty resulting from the war increase the risk of transportation and business, so the cost of insurance and arrangement in harbors will increase because of the additional security fees. It’s cogitable that total amount of both goods trade and service trade falls down evidently. The reason of Irac War’s outbreak is various, but the essential ones are Irac’s abundant petroleum resource and U.S.A’s political interest in the Middle East. The national polices has a decisive effect on international trade situation. Second, it’s a phrase familiar to everyone suddenly, SARS(severe acute respiratory syndrome). Although we can’t estimate its effect and loss exactly now, it’s evident that our normal everyday life is disturbed seriously. The touism, traffic, trade, service industry will all be affected. The aspects about financial and investment in national economy also can’t avoid the pessimistic prospect. Along with increase of the number of countries where SARS patients have been found, the panic to SARS has spread the whole world. Asian economy suffer strike again after Financial Crises in 1997.

In a word, along with the development of science and economy, all aspect of national and people’s daily life is more and more combined to a undivided unity. Politics, economy, culture and customs, these factors refering to society science gradation, are always interacting with each other and have a complicated relationship. Philosopher Max had said that economy formation decide the stucture of the society and relatively, the arrangement of the government and power’s assignation also can affect the productivity and economic situation. So, international trade and the world’s situation are cause and effect to each other. When we analyse the variation of trade amount or the diplomatic relations among countries, we must consider all possibilities comprehensively. Only in this way we can go deep into the realities of phenomenon and master the useful method to coordinate economy and other factors. It’s essential for us to recognize it so that we can contribute more to our own future and also our nation’s development.
